Frequently Asked Questions
What type of curtains does Pillow Talk sell?
We currently offer sheer curtains and blockout curtains. Sheers are made of a lightweight semi-transparent fabric that allows light to filter through while still providing a moderate level of privacy. Blockouts are designed to completely block sunlight when they are drawn closed.
What is the difference between sheer and blockout curtains?
Sheer curtains are perfect for diffusing the glare and brightness of harsh sun rays while still allowing natural light to filter into a room. All of our blockout curtains are finished with a high quality 3 pass coating on reverse ensuring no light can seep through the fabric. They are perfect for shift workers that need to sleep during the day or for a baby room. They are also great for media rooms to achieve that dark cinematic experience.

How do you measure for curtains?
Firstly, determine the total window width, measuring from the outside of the window architrave on both sides. Check that the curtain length will be long enough for your ceiling height by deciding where your rod will sit (read more in our curtains buying guide) and measuring to 1cm above the floor. Usually, curtain widths remain about 1 and a half to 3 times the final window width measurement. But this is all dependent on your desired look. All our curtains are designed to be floor length (250cm drop); If you need any more help, don’t hesitate to bring your measurements in-store or phone your local Pillow Talk store and one of our experienced and helpful team members can assist you!
How do you hang curtains?
Once you have your measured curtains you will need a curtain rod set, which includes brackets, to install your curtains on the wall. Mark the desired position of your curtain brackets so the rod sits 5 to 15cm above the frame or alternatively halfway between the top of the frame and the ceiling. Brackets should also sit approximately 5cm before the end of the rod.
How do you clean & wash curtains?
Blockout Curtains: The first step to clean any blockout curtain is to vacuum it. For foam-coated fabrics the next step is to hand wash them with a mild detergent (no fabric softener). Alternatively, for woven or weave fabrics (with no coating on reverse) steam them while hung working from top to bottom. In-between washes, try to keep your curtains dust free by regularly shaking them outdoors to minimise the amount of dust accumulating.
Sheer Curtains: Shake outdoors or gently vacuum with appropriate attachment on low power setting. Warm hand wash with mild detergent. Do not soak, wring or rub. Do not bleach. Rinse well. For best results hang curtains by tabs to drip dry immediately.
Quick & Easy Solution: A quick and easy way to clean your curtains without having to take them down is to regularly vacuum then to remove dirt, dust, grime or even pet hair. Alternatively, if you’re short on time simply taking them and gently shaking them off outside can remove any debris.
