At Pillow Talk, consciousness and integrity are at the core of our values and we take pride in giving you the comfort of knowing that you are purchasing responsibly. Throughout every stage, from our supply chain to our retail experience, we’ve implemented measures to ensure that you can trust in the quality and ethics of the products you bring into your home.

Confidence in our products starts well before the product reaches our retail stores. We travel the world to find the best materials and latest techniques so that regardless of price point, we can back our products as being the best they can be. We believe that good product design and quality are integral to reducing waste and we are committed to helping our customers find the right product for them. Where we can, we design products that incorporate materials capable of being recycled at end-of-life or products that already incorporate recycled materials.

We believe that transparency and accountability are essential to customer's decisions. In addition to our commitment to ensure our suppliers are providing safe, clean and fair working conditions for their people we also look to work with suppliers that are prioritising sustainable production and are part of initiatives such as OEKO-Tex Standard 100, Responsible Down Standard, Forest Stewardship Council, Global Recycle Standard and Recycled Claim Standard. Find out more about these initiatives below!

Certifications

At Pillow Talk, we are dedicated to offering products that meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and responsibility. We are proud to have our products certified by globally recognized organizations, including OEKO-Tex Standard 100, Responsible Down Standard, Sensitive Choice Approval by the National Asthma Council of Australia and more. Each product that holds a certification is clearly detailed on our product labeling, ensuring transparency and trust. However, it can be tricky to know what each certification means for you, so we've provided detailed information about each certification to help demystify what each logo and label means.

OEKO-Tex Standard 100

The OEKO-Tex Standard 100 is a label for textiles that have been tested for harmful substances and have passed the safety tests. If a textile article carries the STANDARD 100 label, you can be certain that every component of this article, i.e. every thread, button and other accessory, has been tested for harmful substances at an accredited lab. The strict test criteria are globally standardised and reviewed and updated once a year, so you can shop with confidence.

Responsible Down Standard Certified

The Responsible Down Standard (RDS) is a voluntary standard that aims to improve the welfare of ducks and geese used for down. Taking a holistic approach, the key points of the RDS are:

  • Protecting Animal Welfare, ensuring holistic respect for the animal welfare of the birds from hatching to slaughter. The Five Provisions of animal welfare are respected.
  • No Live-Plucking or Force-Feeding.
  • Chain of custody, ensuring that the identity of RDS down and feather is maintained from farm to final product.
  • Credible Certification - A professional, third-party certification body audits each stage in the supply chain.
  • Confident Communication, meaning only products with 100% certified down and feathers may carry the RDS logo
  • Stakeholder engagement - the RDS was developed with the input of farmers, animal welfare experts, land conservation experts, brands and retailers from across the globe.

If a product carries the Responsible Down Standard Certified label or logo, it means the feather and down used in this product have come from responsible farms that respect animal welfare, do not come from animals in a supply chain that have been subjected to unnecessary harm and which tracks the feather and down from farm to final product.

Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification

Founded in 1999, the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) provides a framework for assessing and endorsing national forest certification systems that adhere to rigorous environmental, social, and economic standards. The organization's primary goal is to ensure that forests are managed in a way that preserves their biodiversity, productivity, and ecological processes while respecting the rights of indigenous peoples and local communities. PEFC certification assures consumers that the wood and paper products they purchase come from responsibly managed forests that meet stringent sustainability criteria.

Forest Stewardship Council

If products or packaging have been certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, it means that it has been made from wood sourced sustainably, from forest to consumer. This includes ensuring:

  • Zero deforestation – trees are harvested responsibly so there is no net loss of forest over time. Forests with irreplaceable values, such as old-growth forests, are identified and maintained.
  • Fair wage and work environment - all workers are provided with proper training, adequate safety protocols, and fair wages.
  • Supporting the change from preservation to conservation, protecting plant and animal species.
  • Community rights - Local communities living in and around forest areas are consulted, and their legal and cultural rights to land and forest resources are respected.

There are 3 FSC labels. FSC 100% means all materials used come from responsibly managed, FSC-certified forests. FSC Recycled means that the product is made from 100% recycled materials. FSC Mix means that the product is made with a mixture of materials from FSC-certified forests, recycled materials, and/or FSC-controlled wood.

Sensitive Choice Approval by the National Asthma Council of Australia

Created by the National Asthma Council of Australia, the Sensitive Choice blue butterfly helps people identify products and services that are asthma and allergy-aware. Products that carry the Sensitive Choice Approval Logo have been reviewed and approved by an independent expert panel that determines their potential benefit to people with asthma and allergies. For instance, our Herington pillow has been made with quality fibres and treated to prevent dust mites, one of the major triggers for asthma and allergy sufferers.
